Texas: Week 5

1. I'm teaching all morning now! Woo hoo! And whew! It's a lot of planning!

2. I have been asked multiple times if I have a daughter.

3. The kids think I'm 32 years old.

4. I'm learning what to do when students tell you NO.

5. I have come to expect talking back when I give instructions to students.

6. I was thrilled when they loved a book I am reading to them that was MY favorite in 3rd grade. (From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler)

7. I was bummed when it took me almost 2 hours to go 20 miles tonight. (Avg speed of 6mph on the freeway)

8. Today, I said, "Rain is bad. Hail is worse. A hurricane is the worst" while teaching about adjectives. A couple kids go, "Ooooo she said a bad worrrrd!!" I was so confused for a minute before I realized that "hell" with a Southern accent sounds like "hail". I died laughing, then explained that hail is a type of precipitation when ice balls fall from the sky.

9. Today, the student with the worst behavior in my class was referred to an alternative school for students with behavior problems.

10. It's a learning process, but I couldn't be more grateful for the two WONDERFUL teachers that I have been placed with!!! :)

All day, every day

When you sign up for student teaching, you know it will be a full time commitment. What you don't know is that it never ends.

You don't know that you'll be staying at school every day until 4:30 or 7pm.
You don't know that you'll have school commitments every Saturday.
You don't know that you'll be spending all day Sundays lesson planning because you don't have time during the week.

But you DO KNOW that retail therapy always works.
The gorgeous weather helps A TON.
You find out you get to wear jeans to school for the entire month of February!
And you get to make totally awesome bulletin boards (if I do say so myself)!

Side note:
It's funny how little Groundhog's Day matters down here, because it's already spring haha. Mid-70s and sunny! Last night, we made a bonfire and had s'mores. In FEBRUARY!!
